Rising, warmer waters sign of first wave of spawns
Posted: May 08, 2015 - 11:30 pm

Both lakes are at Summer pool and spilling. You can get up-to-date information on both lakes by visiting www.kentuckylake.com. Please use caution when navigating both lakes due to the numerous amount of floating debris because of rising water. Water temps are still climbing like they should be and are now pushing 68 degrees depending on where you are on either lake. Reports seem to indicate that the largemouth are deep into the prespawn bite with some starting their spawning activities. The combination of rising and warming water combined with the full moon last weekend, I can make an educated guess and say that the first wave of the spawn has hit the banks. The water conditions are clear on both lakes with water temperatures in the upper 60s. You can monitor water levels and the generation schedules for both lakes at www.tva.com/river/lakeinfo/index.htm

Fishing improves as summer nears
Posted: April 24, 2015 - 11:36 pm

Local anglers report the largemouth bite as good. We are now into a pre-spawn bite, which will have these fish staging on main lake and points and soon flowing transition banks to secondary points adjacent to spawning flats in the creeks and bays. These fish can be taken on Alabama rig, jerkbaits, shallow running crankbaits and finesse jigs. Your best locations will have chuck rock located on it and if there is some kind of wood structure in or near by this it will make it even better.

Local lake temperatures on the rise
Posted: March 27, 2015 - 10:31 pm

The Kentucky and Barkley dams are spilling as much water as they can to keep water levels in both lakes under control. You can get up-to-date information on the lakes by visiting www.kentuckylake.com. The spilling will help clear the lake sooner, but will keep water temps down in my opinion. Please use caution when navigating both lakes due to the fact that we are still at winter pool levels and floating logs and trash in the water.

Fish coming back as lakes warm up
Posted: March 21, 2015 - 12:17 am

Both lakes are just past one foot over winter pool levels and rising due to heavy rain and run-off. You can get up-to-date information on both lakes by visiting www.kentuckylake.com. The Kentucky and Barkley dams are spilling as much water as they can to keep water levels under control. The spilling will help clear the lake sooner, but will keep water temperatures down in my opinion. Please use caution when navigating both lakes, due to the fact that we are still under summer pool levels and the amount of debris that is floating in both rivers right now.

Time to get ready for March fishing
Posted: March 06, 2015 - 8:37 pm

We have finally made it to the month of March and are officially just a few weeks away from Spring — if you’re like me, you’ve checked the long-range weather forecast several times a day for the past week trying to see when Mother Nature is going to finally allow you to make a trip to the lake. However, before we hitch the boat to the truck, I want to remind you to make one more check of your safety gear, trailer and equipment and make sure that everything is ready to go and not spoil your first trip out.

Temperatures moving to summer pool levels
Posted: July 04, 2014 - 10:49 pm

Both lakes are presently at or near summer pool levels with water temperatures in the low to mid 80s. The largemouth are in a true summer pattern and that means the majority of these fish will be holding deep on main lake as well as creek and bay ledges, humps and drops.
