Rodney “Ronnie” Chevis Groom, 71, Hopkinsville, died at 10:27 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville with Major Jennifer Cooper and Retired Colonel Rich Cooper officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the service hour Monday at the church. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Hopkinsville, he was born Dec. 17, 1948, the son of the late William Garland Groom and Ruby Garner Groom.

He worked in Christian County Child Support Office and he was a petty officer second class in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Robert H. McCard. He was a member of the Christian County Historical Society and worked with Tom’s Vending. He was an elder and a deacon of First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Groom Jr., and his sister, June Hall.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Haywood Groom; his sons, Shane (Brandi) Halvorson, Hopkinsville, Jeff (Sarah) Addison, Hopkinsville, Wade (Becca) Groom, Russellville and Justin (Jessica) Groom, Gracey; his sisters, Linda (Larry) Myers and Judy (Greg) Hester, both of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
