Hopkinsville-Christian County Newcomers and Neighbors is a nonprofit organization sponsored by Planters Bank that connects new people in the community with longtime residents in order to learn about the area and develop new friendships while supporting local charities. The group meets at 11 a.m. the second Thursday of each month at various locations with local speakers. The group also offers other interest groups, a book club, craft group and more. Life Recovery of Hopkinsville meets at 6:30 p.m. every Friday at 913 S. Main St., Hopkinsville. It is a Christian-based, 12-step recovery program. Life Recovery is free and open to anyone interested in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, divorce, codependency and other addictions. Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department is offering pickleball from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays and from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays from October through May 15. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Participation will be “drop-in” play and court reservations will be first-come first-serve. Pickleball is an up-tempo game with a mix of tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball. There is no fee to play. The use of paddles and pickleballs require a form of I.D. for check-out.
