Trigg County Hospital CEO John Sumner told the board during its June 25 meeting that he has applied for a Pennyrile Area Development District grant to add more patient rooms to the hospital.

Sumner told the board that the $100,000 grant will pay for a large portion of a new project that will turn the current COVID-19 isolation area into more private patient rooms. Sumner told the board that this will give the hospital 18 private rooms.

“My goal has been to get us to 18 private rooms,” Sumner said. “We rarely go over 18 overnight patients at a time so this would give everyone a private room.”

Sumner said they will hear about the grant application in the next couple of months. If the board receives the PADD grant, the hospital will have to pay the remaining portion of the project that is not covered by the grant, which is around $80,000.

The next meeting of the Trigg County Hospital Board is at 5 p.m. July 23.
