Kentucky State Police has arrested Shaylynn Curtis, 28, East Adams Mill Road, Cadiz, and charged her with abuse of a corpse after her 5-month-old infant son was found deceased in the home.

A press release from the state police notes that KSP Post 1 was notified just after 6 p.m. on Oct. 26 by Trigg County Dispatch of an infant that had been found deceased at the residence, and troopers and detectives responded to the home at the request of the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Curtis had been living with the baby at the home, and the child died during the night of Oct. 25 for reasons that are still under investigation.

Curtis took the Curtis took the deceased infant and drove to a friend’s house, the press release noted. She then returned home, wrapped the infant in a blanket and placed him in the attic of the residence. Curtis did not make any attempts to call 911 or seek medical assistance for the infant.

Friends of Curtis who were concerned about the welfare of the infant contacted 911, according to the press release.

Curtis is now lodged in the Christian County Jail. An autopsy was conducted on the baby on Oct. 27. Results of that autopsy had been pending. The incident is continuing to be investigated by KSP Det. Brian Hill.
