Caledonia Road is closed

A section of KY 272/Caledonia Road southeast of Cadiz in Trigg County is blocked due to a sinkhole that has developed in the middle of the roadway near the 5.6 mile marker, according to a press release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The sinkhole is along KY 272/Caledonia Road between Cliftwood Drive and Glenwood Mill Road.

Over the weekend, a resident reported a bump developing in the roadway. This morning the bump developed into a sinkhole about the size of a small car.

Transportation Cabinet personnel are barricading the area, and Kentucky 272/Caledonia Road will remain closed at this site until further notice.

A crew will return with equipment to determine how deep the hole extends so engineers can develop a repair plan over the next few days.

There will be no marked detour. However, motorists may self-detour via Kentucky 139/South Road, U.S. 68, and Kentucky 1585/South Montgomery Road.

KET seeking contest entries

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to submit stories, poems and illustrated tales for the 2022 KET Young Writers Contest. The contest, which runs Jan. 1 through April 15, encourages students to celebrate the power of crafting stories, poems and illustrations by submitting their own original work.

Kentucky Educational Television officials noted in a press release that they have made two changes to this year’s contest, adding a new graphic novels category and opening the categories to students of all grade levels (and widened the age requirement for the illustrated stories category to include PreK children).

Categories include Illustrated stories (Pre-K through 12th grade); Short stories (Kindergarten through 12th grade); Poetry (Kindergarten through 12th grade); and Graphic novels (Kindergarten through 12th grade).

Entries must be submitted or postmarked by April 15 to be eligible. Complete rules and contest entry forms are available at KET.org/writerscontest.

KET judges will select winners by May 30, and the top three entries in each category will be published online.
