Ruth Jolly, 97

Ruth Jolly, 97, Cadiz, died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Murray-Calloway County Hospital of natural causes.

There will be no formal service. Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz is handling arrangements.

A native of California, she was born Dec. 17, 1922, the daughter of the late Audy and Mary (Allen) Rutledge.

Ruth resided most of her life in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where she owned an in-home child care service for 20 years. She and her late husband, Ralph Bratton Jolly, were founding members of Edgewood Baptist Church. After retirement, they moved to Cadiz, where she joined the Cadiz Quilting Guild and volunteered at ACTS. She also began her many years of collecting clothes, shoes and toys to mend and send to the orphans in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky.

Her many hobbies included flower gardening, quilting, antiques, and her endless energy to help every child in need. She touched so many lives in her 97 years. Her family and friends will always remember her for her selfless acts of kindness to all, especially for the children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bratton Jolly, and her brother, Charles Rutledge.

Survivors include her son, Robert “Bob” Jolly, Cadiz; her daughter, Sue Whitmer, Kennesaw, Georgia; her sister, Mildred Colson, Tallahassee, Fla.; one granddaughter, Sydney (Brett) Blackwell, Georgia; twin great-granddaughters, Jordan Taylor Blackwell and Ashley Bennett Blackwell; a nephew — Tony Colson, Indianapolis, Indiana; a niece — Robin Colson, Tallahassee, Florida.
