Luther Thomas "L.T. Tom" Sumner, 96

Luther Thomas “L.T. Tom” Sumner, 96, of Cadiz, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Shady Lawn Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cadiz.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at East End Cemetery, Main Street in Cadiz. Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main St., in Cadiz.

Born March 15, 1924, in Trigg County, he was the son of the late William Averitt Sumner and Mary Virginia Wilson Sumner.

He was a United States Army veteran of WWII, stationed in the Philippines and Japan. He was retired from Pennyrile Rural Electric and was owner of L.T. Sumner Motor Sales in Cadiz for many years. He was a member of Cadiz Baptist Church and a 60-year member of Cadiz Masonic Lodge No. 121.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha “Wink” Taylor Sumner; four brothers, Frank Sumner, Raymond Sumner, Noble Sumner, and Jess Sumner; and five sisters, Blanche Turner, Edith Calhoun, Irene Joiner, Nellie Tinsley, and Ruby Dean Tinsley.

He is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Johnny) Meadows and Susie (Bill) Ashby, both of Cadiz; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
