James Eddie Graddy, 72

James Eddie Graddy, 72, of Richmond, Ky., formerly of Hopkinsville, Ky., died at 12:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at his home in Madison County, Ky., following a year-long battle with cancer.

The family has chosen cremation with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date in Hopkinsville.

A native of Hopkinsville, Mr. Graddy was born Jan. 17, 1949, the son of the late James Everett and Lillie Teague Graddy.

Mr. Graddy began working at an early age as a bagger at the IGA grocery store in Hopkinsville. Following graduation from Christian County High School, he attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve where he served as a cook and a Drill Sergeant. He worked for many years in automobile sales at Williams Chevrolet, Bill Ed Chevrolet and Sisk Pennyrile Honda in the positions of Salesman, Sales Manager and General Manager. From 1994 to 2015, he owned and operated Graddy Auto Sales, Incorporated, in Hopkinsville.

As a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, he provided an outreach ministry conducting Bible study and ministering to a group of senior adults at Christian Care Communities from 1999 to 2017, before moving to Richmond. He had a passion for this work and conveyed his love for Christ to many of the residents, staff and visitors.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Lane Graddy; a nephew, Michael Graddy; a niece, Robin Graddy; and a special cousin, Gwyn Gray Lacy.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy Thomas Graddy of Richmond; a daughter, Allyson Graddy (Edd) Harrison, Richmond, Ky.; a son, James Brant Graddy, Richmond, Ky.; one half-brother, Howard (Shelby) Graddy, Melvindale, Mich.; one step-granddaughter, Darby Harrison, Lexington, Ky.; three nieces and seven nephews.
