Billy Wayne Ezell, age 79, of Hopkinsville, formerly of Cadiz, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Hopkinsville, Kentucky after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 9, 1942, in Dover, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Frank Boyd Ezell and Mattie Elizabeth Whitman Ezell. He was a retired barber and was a former employee of Goodwin Funeral Home.

Billy was an avid biker enjoying his Harleys for many years and a classic car enthusiast that was fond of showing off his 1957 Chevy at area car shows. He was also a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, associate member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Cadiz Masonic Lodge #121 F. & A.M. Billy was a member of Delmont Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Waymon Dale Ezell and his sister, Rose Rene Ezell Sholar, step-daughter, Heather Janell Woeckener Borders and step-son, Bobbie Jay Coghill.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shirley Ruth Simmons Ezell, his son, Jackie Wayne (Lisa) Ezell of Hartsel, Colorado, step-son, Kevin Simmons (Anjalena Randolph) of Hopkinsville and step-daughter, Holly Morrow (Dumaka Shabazz) of Antioch, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Ezell Russell, Joshua (Hailey) Ezell, Jevaugn Shabazz, Mecca Shabazz, Medina Shabazz, Derek Borders, Gracie Beth Buckley (AKA Cheyenne Borders) (Scott Holloman), Amber Janelle Borders, Jackson Simmons; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Russell, Morgan Russell, Emma Russell, Harper Carolyn Ezell, Serenity Janell Holloman; two sisters, Judy (Joe) Bryer of Cadiz, Sharon (Dwight) Wolfe of Cadiz and sister-in-law, Mildred Ezell of Cadiz; four brothers, Glen “Tub” (Ann) Ezell of Cadiz, Jesse (Vickie) Ezell of Cadiz, Ronald “Ronnie” (Hazel) Ezell of Linton, Freddie (Mary) Ezell of Cadiz and brother-in-law, Roger Sholar of Big Rock, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life services will be on his 80th birthday at Goodwin Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 9, 2022. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be at Bristoe Lancaster Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz.
