Dennis G. Thomas, age 77, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born June 7, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of five sons born to the late Hubert Jackson Thomas and Vada Wallace Thomas. A long-time career real estate and land developer in Trigg County, Dennis was also a successful business owner and employer, establishing Cadiz Drywall, Inc., in 1975. There, he mentored several young men, helping to give them their start in the construction and drywall industry. He was a 1962 graduate of Trigg County High School and was married to the former Linda Hancock in January 1965. Dennis was a member of Dyers Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and was also a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Cadiz and Trust Company. His entrepreneurial spirit and love of Trigg County were the driving force behind many of his business endeavors, and he was a supporter of many local charitable causes. Dennis enjoyed traveling and cooking, but his family was dearest to his heart. He most loved spending time with them, especially in his role as Poppa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Hancock Thomas, in 2013; and three brothers, Billy Joe Thomas, Charles Thomas, and Andrew Thomas.
He is survived by his son Dennis “Denny” Thomas, Jr. (Addie Eaves) of Cadiz; his daughter, Dana (Karl) Thomas Erickson of Cadiz; three grandchildren, Chastity (Jamie) Thomas Gapp, Nickolas Erickson, and Isabella Erickson; a great-granddaughter, Ada James Gapp; a brother, Bruce (Joyce) Thomas of Cadiz; and his fiancee, Liz Stewart of Cadiz.
Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 21, 2021 with the Reverends Charles Williams and Russ Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Lucian Thomas Cemetery.
