J.L. Caldwell, 81

J.L. Caldwell, 81, of Hopkinsville, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020, at his home.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home Inc., 138 Main St., in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. (today) Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020 with Bro. Mike Humphries and Gilbert Lee officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville.

Born April 19, 1939 in Caldwell County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Louis F. Caldwell and Ethel Brummett Caldwell.

Mr. Caldwell owned Western Kentucky Guttering and Overhead Doors Inc. and had been in business since 1969. He was a Kentucky Colonel with a certificate signed by Governor Breathitt.

J.L. was an avid golfer, a “people person,” and a man of great humor, who never allowed anyone to be too serious when he was around. He was a member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church and loved his church family. Since his semi-retirement, he met his friends at a local restaurant every morning for breakfast and fellowship, where he had his favorite order written on the menu as “Pepaw’s breakfast.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Randy Caldwell and one brother, Ed Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Colley Caldwell of Hopkinsville; one son, Brad Caldwell of Cincinnati, Ohio; one granddaughter, Lindsay Caldwell (Matt) Hunt; three great-grandsons, Hayden, Hensley and Holten Hunt; and one sister, Carolyn Caldwell Stivers, all of Hopkinsville.
