Republican Walker Thomas defeated Jeff Taylor, a Democrat, on Tuesday for a second term serving District 8 in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
“It’s been such an honor to serve Christian (County) and Trigg County over these last two years,” Thomas noted following the announcement of his win.
He said he looks forward to moving the state forward and helping it to be a more competitive market in the future and, among other things, is anticipating being able to push through his bill request that supports tax exemptions for military pensions in an effort to draw military retirees to the state.
Thomas has served on six committees while in office and has just been appointed chairman of a seventh. Among them, he is chairman of the transportation committee and a member of the veterans and military affairs and agriculture committees. Thomas is a past member of Hopkinsville City Council.
He and his wife Sandra Thomas have five children and three grandchildren.
His opponent in the general election is a Democrat who served nine months representing the district after winning a special election in 2015. Taylor is retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
