the Bell Witch

Where: Pennyroyal Area Museum

Info: William T. Turner will recount the Legend of the Bell Witch. This haunting account of a poltergeist-like spirit who terrorized the family of John Bell in nearby Adams, Tenn., is the most well-known ghost story in the region. Whether young or old, this tale is guaranteed to send chills up your spine. This Hopkinsville Halloween tradition is free to the public. This event also offers you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the old Post Office completely empty in preparation for upcoming renovation of the Pennyroyal Area Museum. Freedom Fund and Awards Banquet

Info: The Freedom Fund Banquet is a fundraiser endorsed by the National NAACP to support each local branch. The fundraiser helps the local branch effectuate change in our community by assisting those who are disenfranchised and offer support to the youth in our community. Our efforts in the past have offered our youth who are underserved, scholarship opportunities which assisted in bridging the economical achievement gaps. The speaker will be Dr. Raymond Malcolm Burse who is a graduate of Christian County High School; Oxford University, Oxford England; and Harvard Law School. He is the past president of Kentucky State University and is currently the general counsel for the NAACP of Kentucky. Tickets are $25 per person, $15 for children or $175 for a table of eight. Info: The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County has partnered with the Hopkinsville Fire Department to present this monthly children's story hour. The Walk to

Where: War Memorial Walking Trail Park, 105 Walter Garrett Lane

Info: Oak Grove Community Cares are inviting all to join us in this one-of-a-kind tribute to our soldiers and their families. We will be taking trips around the walking trail to commemorate all hardships we all deal with every day with a candlelight vigil. Refreshments will be available to all who join us. Candles will be available to all for the cost of a $1 or a donation of any kind (canned goods, jacket, blanket, toy.) If anyone would like their loved one to be memorialized, please email us to get involved.

Veteran’s Honor


When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10

Where: Downtown Hopkinsville

Info: The Division of Parks and Recreation, Military Affairs, City of Hopkinsville and Christian County Fiscal Court will be holding a Veteran’s Honor Parade. The .5-mile route will be down Virginia Street from the War Memorial Building turning left onto Ninth Street to the Justice Center.  A float will be available for those veterans who prefer to ride the parade route.  Every participating veteran will receive a small American flag to carry and take home. Veterans will be honored during a short closing ceremony following the Parade at the Justice Center. Supporting sponsors are VFW Post 1913, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, WHOP Radio Station and Hopkinsville D.A.V.  For more information, call the parks and recreation office at 270-887-4290 or military affairs at 270-885-9096.
