Our government has a duty and an obligation to take care of the American people first and foremost, and at all times.
The government does not have the same responsibility to take care of those who enter our country illegally, as they have made a choice to break our laws. Our responsibility should be to deport them back to their country of origin as expeditiously as possible.
For years, we have had a crisis on our southern border. It's become a nightmare watching thousands of people marching, many with covered faces, to the U.S.-Mexico border with the intent to enter our country illegally. Are these actions fair to the thousands of immigrants who have gone through all the proper channels and waited for years to become U.S. citizens? We think not.
It is reassuring to have a president in Donald Trump who actually understands the crisis on our southern border. He's not all talk like his predecessors. He is actually trying to do something about those who continue to defy our laws. He has cut off money to illegal sanctuary cities, only to be challenged in liberal courts over it; he is adding more fencing and border agents and he is making it known loud and clear that if you defy our laws by entering illegally you will be detained and deported. Reports indicate that since Trump's pressure on Mexico, the number of illegals trying to enter our country has gone down. The reason it has gone down is because they know Trump is serious and isn't bluffing.
We couldn't be more proud of Trump for taking his oath of office seriously and trying to stop what amounts to an invasion at our southern border.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said about national Democrats seeking their party's nomination to run against Trump.
Many of the candidates support illegal immigration and sanctuary cities. Listening to them, one would think that they are OK with those who break our laws and deserve the same treatment and benefits that American citizens enjoy.
During a recent debate, NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie asked a group of Democratic candidates if their proposals for universal health care would include "undocumented immigrants."
Every candidate on stage raised their hand, including former Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California (who referred to illegal immigrants as "non-criminals") and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the admitted socialist from Vermont.
Those people stood on stage and told the American people whose votes they are vying for that they want to give illegal immigrants free health care. They want to give those who break our laws by entering this country illegally free health care.
The national Democratic Party seems to have been hijacked by the extreme left and the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezes of their party. They want to use your tax dollars to pay for health care for illegal immigrants.
Unbelievable, but not surprising.
Trump responded to their support of rewarding illegal behavior very appropriately after the Democratic debates when he tweeted, "How about taking care of American citizens first?"
We couldn't agree more, Mr. President.
