The 12th Annual Take 2 Butterfly Festival culminated earlier this year in Oak Grove with its main event of releasing around 1,600 butterflies into the waiting crowd as butterflies flew up toward the sky or landed on those eagerly watching the release.

Despite another COVID year, some towns’ lights can’t be dimmed.

The City of Oak Grove remained in good spirits for each gathering of events held throughout 2021. The small town ahas less than 10,000 residents yet exceeds its population each year with highly anticipated annual events.

Oak Grove Tourism recapped the festivities the small town managed much success, despite the smaller number of attendees.

TMP Executive Director of Oak Grove’s Tourism Traci Cunningham reflected on a successful year.

“Despite still being in a pandemic, we were able to still have a great year,” Cunningham said. “Each event held had a lower headcount than pre-covid, but we still had a great time. For each event, guidelines were held to ensure public health and safety. Our staff year is absolutely amazing. None of our events held this year would have been possible without our team. We look forward to all of the new memories we plan to make in 2022.”

A few events were highlighted over the year such as Oak Grove welcoming 12,000 visitors to the “Spring into Summer Festival” in May. In 2021, over 5,000 visitors attended the highly anticipated “Butterfly Festival” in September as well as over 100 music lovers attended Oak Grove’s first premier of the Music Under The Stars Series. Earlier in the Spring, the first event held at the beginning of the year was the annual “Murder Mystery Dinner Show” which resulted in over four hundred attendee’s and the year ended with many children of the City’s favorite event. During the holiday season, “Christmas in the Grove,” welcomed over 270 guests with each child in attendance leaving with a present.

The year will tip off in the beginning of Spring with the “Murder Mystery Dinner Show” on March 26. 2022. The second event of the year will be “The Spring into Summer Festival” two day, which will be held on May 28 and 29, 2022.

The third highly anticipated event known as “The Butterfly Festival,” where over a thousand butterflies are released to aid their journey to cooler weather. will take place on September 3, 2022. “The Music Under The Stars Series” will be held every third Friday in June, July, and August 2022. The year will end with another favorite, also known as “Christmas In The Grove” which will be held on December 16, 2022 where children of the City get to meet Santa, receive a Christmas present as well as take part in the town’s parade and tree lighting.

“We welcome everyone to join us this New Year for all the events we have planned. It’s not just Oak Groves Tourism that has great things in store but the City in general,” said Cunningham. “Oak Grove is growing each year and I’m thankful to witness that and meet new faces. We look forward to all that’s been planned this year.”

Oak Grove’s community center plans to hold several events throughout the year as well as Oak Grove’s Racing, Gaming and Hotel casino where chances to win money and prizes will be up for grabs. Stay updated to all the events that will be set for 2022.
