crafting after hours

Hopkinsville Art Guild President Henrietta Kemp talks about the organization’s upcoming Crafting After Hours programs during a recent Midday at the Gallery. The programs kick off Tuesday and continue through June 2020. Kemp holds a holiday bag as an example of one of the crafts being made in the November class “Bags and Tags,” led by artist Betty Liles.

Community residents interested in expanding their artistic skills may consider the Hopkinsville Art Guild's Crafting After Hours.

The classes begin Tuesday at the gallery at 108 E. Sixth St. and continue through June. Each program is from 6 to 8 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

These crafting programs are open to the public. Pre-registration is required. A $25 fee is charged, but all supplies are provided.

Henrietta Kemp, Hopkinsville Art Guild president, invited the community to participate in Crafting After Hours at a recent Midday at the Gallery event.

"They are not really projects that are serious fine art, but they are fun things to do," she said. "Several of our members have offered to do one (of the classes)."

Kicking off the series Tuesday will be Clarksville artist Michell Lazov with Alcohol Ink Creations. Lazov will lead participants through the process of creating beautiful art using alcohol ink, according to a release.

"We going to make two 4-inch tiles," Lazov said. "Just basic techniques. Anybody can do it. It's a blast."

Participants under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants may register online at and or at the gallery on Sixth Street, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The November class will be led by artist Betty Liles just in time for the holidays. She will be instructing participants how to make Christmas "Bags and Tags."

"You can take the pattern home and you can make your own bags," Kemp said.

Classes resume Jan. 14 and continue through June 9. Classes in 2020 include
