In almost 40 years of working as a professional musician, Ron Creager has built up a large supply of memories. With an upcoming show at the Alhambra Theatre, he plans on sharing many of them.
On April 20, Creager will host “Piano Plus…A Musical Surprise Party,” which will feature performances from singers Sharon Murray, Dana Adams and Becky Boehlitz. Creager will also perform and plans on sharing photographs and videos from throughout his career with the audience.
Creager has lived and worked in Hawaii, Australia and Los Angeles during his career. He has played restaurants, resorts, cabarets, composed for the theater and worked as musical director for cabaret singers. He has also played with musical therapy groups, working in rest homes, children’s hospitals and centers for neglected children.
Creager moved to Hopkinsville in 2009 and began playing piano on weekends at Harper House. He has also played for many local events and churches. He said Pennyroyal Arts Council Chair Carol Barta approached him about doing the show.
The show’s director is Tony Taylor, an old theater colleague of Creager’s from Australia. Creager said the show will feature many of his original songs as well as several sing-alongs for the audience. He plans on playing videos made for several of his songs.
There will also be videos of Creager’s mother, a former gospel singer, performing and a video featuring Toni Lamond, a singer and long-time collaborator with Creager.
“(The show) is basically autobiography, though not necessarily chronological,” said Creager.
Planters Bank is co-sponsoring the show. It will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $12 for high school and college students and $6 for kindergarten through eighth-grade students.
Tickets can be purchased at the L&N Depot, 425 E. Ninth St., or at the Alhambra box office the night of the performance.
