The Hopkinsville Police Department on Tuesday released a list of the city’s most collision-prone intersections and ways drivers can avoid wrecks.

According to the release, East Ninth Street and Main Street, Skyline Drive and Fort Campbell Boulevard and West Seventh Street and North Drive are the most common places for crashes in Hopkinsville.

Because of that, the release said, patrol officers will be increasing their presence and attention at these intersections in the following weeks.

Additionally, HPD suggested a few tips for drivers who travel through any of these intersections on a regular basis.

When turning onto a road with multiple lanes, it is safer for drivers to turn into the closest lane. With congestion often a problem at these intersections, the department recommends people give themselves more space and time to brake, and increase awareness of other cars around them.

Lastly, HPD urges people to refrain from using cellular phones when passing through these high-collision areas.
