A passenger had to be transported to the hospital for treatment at around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday following a two-vehicle accident on East Ninth Street, according to a Hopkinsville Police Department report.

The report states Samuel Wright, 46, Hopkinsville, and Walter Victor, 65, Hopkinsville, were both driving east on East Ninth Street when Wright allegedly had his phone on speaker and had put it in his lap.

Wright told officers that once he was done talking on the phone, he looked down at his phone to hang it up and when he looked back up, Wright was quickly approaching the back of Victor’s vehicle as he was pressing his breaks, the report said.

At that Victor noticed Wright was approaching his vehicle and was not slowing down and attempted to swerve out of the way, but was unable to.

Wright’s vehicle then collided with the back of Victor’s vehicle causing severe damage to both vehicles, according to the report.

Neither driver reported any injuries. However, Victor’s passenger, Angelique Victor, 49, Hopkinsville, complained of knee and back pain and was transported to Jennie Stuart Health for medical treatment, the report added.
