Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred at around 11:35 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Interstate 24 and Fort Campbell Boulevard in Oak Grove after the Oak Grove Police Department requested KSP’s assistance in investigating the accident, according to a KSP press release.
According to the release, a preliminary investigation by KSP revealed that David Steinman, 61, Cost, Texas, was driving a semi attempting to turn from the I-24 eastbound off-ramp to turn onto Fort Campbell Boulevard.
As Steinman was exiting the I-24 southbound lanes, his trailer was reportedly struck in the side by a Honda Civic driven by Adam Kelly, 21, Clarksville, causing Kelly’s vehicle to become lodged in the front of the trailer’s tires, trapping Kelly inside his vehicle, the release said.
Kelly was then removed by mechanical means and flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
KSP was assisted on scene by OGPD, the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Hopkinsville Fire Department, the release added.
The investigation into the collision is still ongoing, according to the release.
