The first business in the new plaza on Sivley Road near Best Western is the 6,000-square-foot Fancy Liquor and Bar.

Owned by longtime, local Subway proprietors Sam and Meghana Patel, the liquor store and bar will offer a variety of wine, liquor, beer and snacks. A ribbon cutting is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at 121 Sivley Road, behind Aspen Dental on Fort Campbell Boulevard. Along with tastings, Patel said there will be a 5% discount on purchases during the grand opening event.

Patel said he owned the lot for years before building the plaza this year. He originally had plans to put other types of retail stores inside the 9,000 square foot plaza; however, after discussing his plans with a friend, Patel realized the corner lot would be good for a liquor store and bar.

"(It's) in between all the hotels and everything and close to the super Walmart," Patel said about his decision to pivot. "This is one of the biggest liquor stores (in town) with an open bar inside, and we're going to have a wide variety with competitive price."

Wine, liquor, beer and other spirits are neatly shelved under bright lights inside the store. The wood-top bar area is at the front left of the store and a small area to the right of the main entrance will be reserved for more expensive libations, he noted.

Patel said his daughter helped them decide on naming it "fancy."

"Fancy looked nice because we are going to be different from everybody," he said.

Along with serving Meghana's favorite, the Moscow mule, at the bar, Fancy bartenders will whip up cocktails and the store's signature "layered shot."

"You can see the three different layers," Patel said. "It's got Irish cream, orange liqueur and Tia Maria."

Hours of the operation will be from 10 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The remaining 3,000 square feet of the plaza is vacant at this time, but Patel said if all goes well with Fancy Liquor and Bar, more could be coming.

"If we do good with the bar, we might do a sports bar in the future," he said.
