San Francisco Bay area native Taylor Duke joins the Kentucky New Era news staff as a staff writer.

Duke, who now lives in Hopkinsville, will be covering Hopkinsville City Council and general news assignments.

She graduated from the University of the Cumberlands in December 2020 with a degree in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Journalism and minor in business administration.

While in college, Duke worked as a staff photographer through the ranks to managing editor for the campus newspaper, The Patriot. She completed her time at the paper as the editor-in-chief.

During her four years on The Patriot staff, Duke won awards from the Kentucky Press Association for writing, photography, graphic design and advertising work, as well as an award from the Associated Collegiate Press.

“I fell in love with journalism because it allowed me to be the voice for the voiceless and hold those in authority accountable,” Duke said. “Seeing every move of change Hopkinsville has taken since moving here has made me fall in love with this ever-growing community. I am beyond excited and blessed to have the opportunity to report for Hopkinsville and the surrounding area.”

“Taylor has been a friend of the New Era for years. When I took over the editor’s chair, she was my first choice to fill out our reporting staff,” said New Era Editor Jon Russelburg. “I look forward to reading her stories from our community.”
