The Christian County Health Department reported 31 new COVID-19 cases Monday. On Saturday, the health department reported 20 new cases.
Though the weekend saw a rise in new cases, the overall active case count has dropped. Saturday, the health department reported 244 active cases but only 209 Monday.
The county has seen 842 recovered cases and 15 deaths.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced 342 new cases Monday throughout the state. Of the new cases, 53 were of children 18 years old and younger.
The governor also reported five new deaths. One of the five deaths was the Christian County resident who passed away Friday.
“If you’re a person — whether you’re in the state legislature or at home on your keyboard — that is saying, ‘Oh, but these people are older,’ shame on you,” Beshear said. “These are children of God, just like everyone else, who deserved more time on this planet.”
The state has administered over 1 million COVID-19 tests since the pandemic began.
“We’ve now conducted over a million COVID tests in Kentucky. That is pretty exciting,” Beshear said. “I remember when we didn’t have COVID tests, when every day we had to tell you unless you were sick, not to get one.”
The positivity rate sits at 4.17%. On Sunday, the positivity rate was reported at 4.38%.
