Up-and-coming local food company Vansauwa's Tacos and Vegan Eats is nearing the final stretch of a 40-day Kickstarter campaign.

The owners, Desaepa Vansauwa and Zirconia Alleyne, have a fundraising goal of $15,000 to furnish kitchen equipment for their new food trailer and to get it professionally wrapped in the company's logo.

As of Sunday, local backers and customers had pledged $3,200 on the campaign's Kickstarter page.

However, with just four days left, the company is looking for a big push from its supporters.

Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising platform for emerging business owners and product creators. Therefore, Kickstarters must reach or exceed the fundraising goal in order to be funded. If not, pledged funds will not be distributed for the project.

Two Hopkinsville businesses --- Hopkinsville Brewing Co. and The Mixer --- have been successful using Kickstarter to launch. Hopkinsville Brewing raised more than $40,000 in 2016 to launch Hopkinsville's first brewery on Fifth Street. Soon-to-open The Mixer raised its $50,000 goal in January to launch a bar, bakery and restaurant on Sixth Street.

The Mixer pushed through a $7,000 hole in the last 12 hours of its campaign, according to its campaign page.

Vansauwa's Tacos and Vegan Eats has been serving its Caribbean-inspired jerk chicken tacos and vegan fare out of a 10-foot-by-10-foot tent at local events and business partnerships for the past year.

Vansauwa, a 28-year-old native of Hopkinsville, won the Christian County Chamber of Commerce New Venture entrepreneurship contest last spring. The chamber donated $5,000 toward the business operation costs.

Vansauwa said he is confident the campaign will push through to the goal in its final hours, but backers are needed in order to do so.

If the campaign is successful, backers will receive a variety of rewards, ranging from private catering, free jars of the signature jerk marinade and a chance to learn the chef's secrets inside the food trailer.
