Spring is just about here and many things are happening.
Before the month of March is over, a one in a lifetime event is occurring right here in the heart of the city.
Earlier this year, Visit Hopkinsville announced being an official 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee regional partner giving students an opportunity to participate in America’s longest-running educational competition.
Scripps National Spelling Bee is set for March 26, 2023 beginning at 2 p.m. at the historic, iconic Alhambra Theatre.
The top 40 school champions from the 29-county region will move on to the regional qualifying event in Hopkinsville.
This year’s Spelling Bee will be the only regional qualifying event in the Commonwealth that will send three competitors to nationals with the opportunity to compete for the Scripps Cup.
The beauty of this competition is the beauty in the sheer number of all walks of life from all different backgrounds and upbringings can potentially be represented.
Earlier this week, Visit Hopkinsville posted on their Facebook how there are still opportunities to volunteer and sponsor the bee.
Brooke Jung, Executive Director for Visit Hopkinsville shared a great deal of anticipation for March 26.

This event began in 1925 and continues the wordy legacy. Since the beginning, this well known spelling bee has reached 11 million children.
Scripps National Spelling Bee illuminates pathways to lifelong curiosity that also celebrates academic achievements that in turn, enrich communities.
In preparation for this event, Visit Hopkinsville Tourism was awarded two years of financial support for this event from the American Rescue Plan Act. With these funds, Visit Hopkinsville, Pennyroyal Arts Council and Christian County Literacy Council have all joined together as a collaborative effort to make Scripps Spelling Bee an amazing experience for the City of Hopkinsville and all of its visitors.
Come and join at the Alhambra Theatre and witness the great source of knowledge the youth of Kenutcky has.
This occurrence is a once in a lifetime experience. The historic theatre has seen many things, but a national spelling bee contest is quite special among the many memories on the stage of the Alhambra.
