The United Way of the Pennyrile had plans to come together Thursday evening, Jan. 13, for a Campaign Celebration Dinner, but due to the rising COVID-19 cases, the group decided to cancel until further notice.
COVID-19 cases have spiked throughout the state, as the new variant has unfortunately gained momentum. In recent weeks the number of positive cases in Christian County has exploded with over 800 new cases being reported last week by the Christian County Health Department. It was because of this that the United Way decided to call off plans for the dinner.
“Safety and comfortability are key always. We thought it best to cancel the event, though we hope to have it later in the year,” said Betsy Bond, United Way of the Pennyrile executive director. “ I’d like to give a huge thank-you to our agencies who have partnered with us as well as all of the volunteers we have had. We are so grateful to our donors and our volunteers who, each year, give of themselves to help those in our community whose needs are great.”
The United Way of the Pennyrile partners with 20 agencies in the four-county service area of Caldwell, Christian, Todd, and Trigg. United Way goes beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change that lifts up entire communities around the world. The organization tackles education, income, and health.
The United Way of the Pennyrile occupies multiple divisions that aid in industrial, residential, health, education, among other boroughs. Of the divisions, education is named the cornerstones for success in school, work and life. Setting kids on the path to success begins with early intervention, and then, through high-quality education, students can graduate high school prepared for college and career. The two divisions are childhood success and young success. Childhood success focuses on early intervention and topics such as early grade reading and school readiness, while Youth Success deals with middle grades success, high school graduation, and post-secondary success. With these programs in place it ensures every resident is able to get on level-footing in our communities and be productive members of society. While education is a pillar of the main sectors, financial stability and health are just as important.
Though The United Way of the Pennyrile dinner had been canceled, the mission of the United Way of the Pennyrile remains the same, “uniting people and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities throughout the Pennyrile.” Once the Campaign Celebration Dinner is back on board, the annual event will continue honoring the service of one volunteer to a partner agency.
The United Way of the Pennyrile continues to be the most successful health and human services fundraising organization in the community.
