The Trigg County School Board began its search Thursday for the next district superintendent.

The board has hired the Kentucky School Board Association to assist with the search process. Tim Eaton, of KSBA, met with the board to discuss next steps and to establish a timeline for the hiring process.

The board will advertise the position through the association from July 15 through Aug. 31. At that time, a screening committee will narrow down the candidates to their top three to five and present them to the board. The board will make the final decision on who will fill the position.

The screening committee will be made up of one board member, appointed by the board chair; one principal, chosen by the district principals; two teachers, chosen by the teachers; one classified staff member, chosen by the classified staff; and one parent, chosen by the PTO association.

The screening committee will be assembled during the first month of school. The board hopes to make its decision by the middle of October, with a new superintendent's contract beginning no later than Jan. 1.

Interim superintendent Tim McGinnis’ contract ends Dec. 31.

School board attorney Howell Hopson thanked the board for allowing him to serve the board and the district. Hopson’s term on the board ends July 1. At that time, Jack Lackey will begin his contract with the board.
