The Freedom Flag Foundation is a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization created after September 11, 2001 in Richmond, VA to oversee the distribution of the Freedom Flag into schools, colleges, and universities.
The Freedom Flag was established to honor and remember the victims, heroes and survivors that endured the tragedy that took place on September 11, 2023.
This annual tradition was put into place in remembrance within the educational community that honors the victims, heroes, and survivors of September 11, 2001.
On Sept. 11, 2001, 19 militants affiliated with Islamic extremists hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against the U.S.
Two airplanes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. At the Pentagon right outside Washington, D.C., a third plane intentionally crashed, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Penn.
On that day, in total almost 3,000 people with over 85 citizens from foreign nations were sadly assassinated in New York City, at the Pentagon near D.C., and flight 93 which landed in Pennsylvania.
Since that tragedy the organization has gained traction world wide, the Freedom Flag has been integrated in each state.
Jane McKnight, the Kentucky Ambassador for the Freedom Flag Foundation has worked to have this flag implemented into the schools within the Bluegrass state.

Just before the school year ended, Jane McKnight presented a Freedom Flag World Trade Center Educational Outreach Program kit to the Headmaster, John Walsh of Heritage Christian Academy in Hopkinsville, for the 2023-2024 school year.
Pembroke Elementary School was the first Kentucky school to have the program in 2021-2022.
The Elementary also received a 9/11 Freedom Flag from the Freedom Flag Foundation and the ceremony took place right out front at the entrance of Pembroke Elementary.
Dawson Springs High School will soon join Heritage Christian Academy in having the program.
With Heritage’s new artifacts, the World Trade Center Steel Educational Outreach Program provides the school with 2 Freedom Flags, the book “Unfurling the Freedom Flag, info cards and an actual piece of steel from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center, on loan for one year. The program is designed to be implemented in September, and especially on Patriot Day (9-11) to commemorate those we promised to “Never Forget”.
Since the tragedy, more than 70 million children have been born in the U.S. Meaning in percentage terms over 20% of the population have no living memory of one of the saddest days known in America.
This organization continues to remember, honor and uplift all of the lives involved in the tragedy. For those looking to join, learn or donate to the org, can follow online and visit: http://www.freedomflagfoundation.org
