Standing recently before a group of supporters at the newly-opened Trigg County Orthopedic Family Medicine, owner William “Bill” Elkins said he was impressed with the loyalty of clients who for many years came from the local community to visit Elkins and Dr. John Yezerski in Murray.

Yezerski retired, and Elkins, who lives in Dexter, decided to open an office in Cadiz.

“We’re blessed to be able to be here and hope to be embraced by the community,” Elkins noted during a ribbon cutting for his new office located at 1396 Canton Road.

The event took place on March 23, with Elkins’ staff, Trigg County Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Beth Sumner, Trigg Chamber President Ashley Johnson and Amy Slone, a chamber board member representing FNB Bank, among those on hand to welcome the business.

Johnson presented Elkins with a gift.

The owner said his facility, which opened initially on Dec. 7, 2020, treats all orthopedic injuries and conditions that don’t require surgery. Patients can be treated for sprains, strains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel, joint arthritis and fractures that don’t require surgery.

“We have the ability to apply casts and splints in the office,” added Elkins, noting that the practice also offers in-house digital imagery and cortisone injections.

A physician assistant, Elkins said he worked with Yezerski, an orthopedic surgeon, for 12 or 13 years in Murray, and Yezerski’s office drew several patients who came from Cadiz and Trigg County.

“I really just enjoyed getting to know the people that we cared for that came from Cadiz and Trigg County, and I wanted to continue to care for those people,” he said.

Elkins noted that there is no other orthopedic care in the local community.

Since opening in December, the office has served primarily local clients, although Elkins said a few people have come from Princeton as well as Hopkinsville.

In addition to Trigg County, Elkins said his orthopedic practice is available to anyone in surrounding communities who is interested in the services it offers.

The practice is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. It accepts most major insurance carriers, including Medicare and Medicaid, and referrals aren’t required unless the patient’s insurance requires one.

Elkins said patients may schedule their own appointments, and the office does accept walk-in patients, he said.

Service is same day or next day.

Elkins said being able to spend time with the patients and sit down and listen to them is what he has enjoyed the most.

“I want to give them an opportunity to be heard, and I want to establish long-term relationships with them,” Elkins said, noting that it has been a blessing to be able to serve the Trigg community in this way.

He has five staff members in the Cadiz office, including himself, X-ray staff Janet Calhoun and Jill Cunningham, registered nurse Laura Gray and Meagan Mills, the office’s receptionist and scheduler.
