A Hopkinsville man was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday while at Bethel Street for allegedly trafficking synthetic drugs, according to a Hopkinsville Police Department report.

Timothy R. Wharton, 44, was arrested and charged with trafficking in synthetic drugs (first offense) after he was searched by officers, the report said.

Wharton allegedly admitted to police that he had two baggies of what Wharton referred to as "the fake stuff." Officers asked if he had "spice" -- also known as synthetic marijuana -- to which he reportedly admitting that he did.

Wharton gave officers consent to search his person, to which police found $36 in small increments and plastic baggies.

Wharton was arrested and lodged in Christian County Jail.
