A Hopkinsville man was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Monday at a home on Walnut Street after he assaulted a woman, sending her to the hospital, according to a Hopkinsville police report.
Officers were originally called to the area of Walnut Street for a possible robbery in progress, the report stated. When police arrived, they reportedly met with a woman who had swelling in her eyes and lips and had lacerations on her head from what was suspected to be an assault.
The woman was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for medical assistance, where she was also interviewed by police.
The woman told officers that Robert Lafon, 45, was at her home and was angry at her for allegations of a theft. Lafon then allegedly began striking her in the face, causing her injuries. The woman added that during the assault, Lafon also pushed her over a railing and continued to strike her in the face.
Lafon was arrested and lodged in the Christian County Jail shortly after. He is charged with second-degree assault.
