Nancy Adkins

Nancy Ashby Adkins, 91, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, wife of Dr. William B. Adkins, Jr., died March 28, 2021 in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY with the Rev. David Gardner and Rev. Tim Jernigan officiating. Private burial will take place in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Centertown, KY she was born May 14, 1929 the daughter of the late Isaac Sanford Ashby and Agnes Duncan Ashby. She was a retired Home Economics teacher having taught in Centertown and Fordsville schools in Ohio County, and Christian County High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY.

Nancy’s endless energy, passion, and humor marked her many endeavors. Her skill and generosity in gardening, sewing, and hospitality graced many lives. She was a devoted wife who was happily married for more than 69 years, a loyal sister, and a friend to many. Her cheerful and giving spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband: Dr. William Boyd Adkins, Jr.; her son: Dr. William Boyd (Bonnie) Adkins III of Hopkinsville, KY; her daughter: Alice (Mike) Adkins Ivy of Appleton, WI; seven grandchildren: William Boyd (Ashley) Adkins IV of Paducah, KY, Gabe (Tina) Adkins of Auburn, KY, Lucy (Eric) Shell of Nashville, TN, Jim (Jessica) Adkins of Murray, KY, Mary (Micah) Nite of New York NY, Rob (Christine) Ivy of Pittsburgh, PA, and Margaret Ivy of Washington D.C.; and fifteen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First Baptist Church Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.
