Evelyn J. Mayes, 100, Hopkinsville, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2019, at the Christian Health Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church with the Revs. David Tucker and Larry Wilson officiating and burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Hopkinsville, she was born Aug. 14, 1918, the daughter of late Byron and Irene Major Jones.
he ran two service stations for over 35 years with her husband, and after his passing, she worked Keach Furniture Company, Moelight and in Jennie Stuart Medical Center payroll department until her retirement in 1987. She was the oldest living member of Second Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of Golden Sunshine at Second Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William David Mayes, in 1967.
Survivors include her son, David William Mayes, Hopkinsville.
