George Wallace Barnett, 91, of Crofton, died at 6:39 pm, January 17, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Crofton Christian Church with Barney Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Lanier Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at Crofton Christian Church. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations in Crofton is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Christian County, he was the son of the late Carlos Ampliss Barnett and Ruby Terry Barnett. He was also preceded in death by brothers, James Barnett, Frank Barnett, Howard Putman and Carlos “Debo” Barnett; and sisters, Louise Keys, Dixie Barnett and Faye Barnett.
George served his country as a Marine in Korea; was a dragline and bulldozer operator for Peabody Coal Company for 27 years; a farmer; maintained watershed lakes through Soil Conservation for 12 years; but most of all he served and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Jean Barnett, sons, John Barnett, David (Carol) Barnett; daughter, Kathy Laughlin; bonus daughter, Diane (Jesse) McGuire, all of Crofton; his brothers, Tom Barnett, and Richard (Mary) Barnett of Crofton; his sisters, Kathleen East of Crofton, Anne Marie Barnett and Connie Lanier Barnett of Hopkinsville; grandchildren, Craig (Becky) Grosskopf, Lisa (Joseph) Sisk, Sonya (Scott) Murphy, Misty Mayes, John (Padmini) Barnett, Mark Mayes; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched.
