Command Sgt. Maj. James Harold Strode, 86, Lexington, formerly of Oak Grove, died at 9:32 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Bluegrass Hospice of natural causes.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Home with Josh Calmes officiating.

Burial will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.

A native of Boligee, Alabama, he was born Aug. 26, 1932, the son of the late Emitt Strode and Julia Crawford Strode.

He retired as a command sergeant major after 28 years in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Memorial Chapel in Fort Campbell.

Survivors include his son, Darryl (Mariva) Strode, Lexington; his brothers, John (Severe) Strode and Vernon (Willie Dell) Strode, both of Boligee, Alabama; and four grandchildren.
