Elizabeth Trabue (“Betsy”) White, 96, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Morningside Assisted Living, where she had been living. Dr. Tony Barta officiated over her private graveside service on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Riverside Cemetery. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home assisted the family with the funeral arrangements.
Mrs. White was born on July 24, 1923, the daughter of William Lee Trabue and Elizabeth McPherson Trabue. She attended Bethel Women’s College and the University of Kentucky. She married Pollard White in 1943, and, except for brief periods of time living in Santa Monica, California, and Swannanoa, North Carolina, while her husband served in the Army Air Corps, they lived in Hopkinsville.
Mrs. White was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She also volunteered for many organizations over the years, most recently serving lunch with her husband at the Salvation Army on Fridays.
Mrs. White is survived by her son, Lee Trabue White and his wife, Danielle, and her son George Clifton Long White, both of Hopkinsville. Her grandchildren are Amy Elizabeth Shaw McEntee and her husband David, Winfred Harrington Shaw and his wife Katherine, Daniel Trabue White, and Katherine Kelly White Bryant and her husband David. She also had seven great-grandchildren: William Shaw McEntee, Elizabeth Trabue McEntee, Christopher Delehanty McEntee, Harrington Dean Shaw, Charles Winfred Shaw, David Pollard Shaw, and Samuel Trabue Bryant. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, by her daughter Elizabeth Trabue White Shaw and grandson Stephen Pollard Shaw in 1997, and by her sisters Sara Lee Thorpe and Ann Trabue Bass.
