Mildred Smith Barta, 96, Hopkinsville, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at later date for the Orwell North Church in Orwell, Ohio. Dogwood Funerals and Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Rome, Ohio, she was born Dec. 11, 1922, the daughter of the late Malcolm V. Smith and Eleanor House.

She was the owner and manager of the Mildred S. Barta Tax Preparation and Insurance Agency in Orwell, Ohio. She was a member and elder of the Orwell North (Presbyterian) Church until she moved to Hopkinsville and joined the First Presbyterian Church in 2012. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star and a past president of the Chamber of Commerce of Orwell, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rudolph Barta.

Survivors include her son, the Rev. Dr. Anthony R. (Carol) Barta, Hopkinsville; her daughter, Marlane L. Nibert, Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
