Dr. William Bowers Anderson, III, 67, went home to be with his beloved Lord Monday, July 15, 2019. He passed away peacefully at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington with his family by his side after battling illness for several years.

Bill grew up in Hopkinsville and discovered his passion for tennis while playing for Hopkinsville High School, a passion that continued the rest of his life. He graduated 3rd in his class in 1970 and went on to study chemistry at Vanderbilt University. From there, he attended medical school at the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1978. He did a three-year family practice residency in Columbus, Georgia, before moving his young family to Cadiz to begin his practice and serve the community he grew to love for the rest of his life. He married the love of his life, Liz, after graduating from Vanderbilt in 1974, and they were married 45 years. Bill cherished her until the very end. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for his family. Most of all, he loved his Lord Jesus and could not wait to see his Savior face to face.

Bill was a career-long Board Certified Family Physician. His private practice closed on Monday, exactly 38 years to the day it opened on July 15, 1981. Laura Gray, Jan Vaughn, and his wife Liz served tirelessly alongside him the entire time. He faithfully served as Chief of Staff for Trigg County Hospital to the end. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and the chairman of the deacons at Cadiz Baptist Church, a church he loved and served with all his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Billy" Bowers Anderson, Jr. and Mary "Mimi" (Winfree) Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Stone) Anderson of Cadiz; his sons and spouses, Will and Kellie Anderson of Trenton, Andrew and Shelly Anderson of Cadiz, and Phelps and Katharine Anderson of Baton Rouge, LA; seven grandchildren; and his siblings and spouses, Tandy and Brian Coatney of Hopkinsville, Brad and Janell Anderson of Hopkinsville, and Clark Anderson of Hopland, CA.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Cadiz Baptist Church, 82 Main Street in Cadiz. A Celebration of Life Service, with Rev. Kyle Noffsinger officiating, will follow on Saturday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m., also at Cadiz Baptist Church. Goodwin Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the Cadiz Gideons Camp, P.O. Box 65, Cadiz, KY, or to The Way Christian Youth Center, P.O. Box 572, Cadiz, KY 42211.

This is a paid obituary announcement.
