Roy C. Marquess Jr., 71, Cadiz, died at 11:17 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville of natural causes.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parkway Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 Peartree Lane, with Don Moore and Richard Sexton officiating.

Burial will be in East End Cemetery in Cadiz.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz and from noon until the service time Friday at the church.

A native of Hopkinsville, he was born July 15, 1948, the son of the late Roy C. Sr. and Lois (Light) Marquess.

He began learning the trade of plumbing at the age of 16, and for more than 40 years, he worked as a plumber with Light's Plumbing and Electric and the former Trigg Supply in Cadiz before working in maintenance at Lake Barkley State Park. He served as pastor at several area churches through the years, including South Road Baptist Church in Cadiz, Bumpus Mills Baptist Church in Tennessee and Bible Baptist in Eddyville. In 1995, he received and accepted a call from Parkway Missionary Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, where he served and pastored until he died. He harmonized for years with The Believer's Quartet, and for the last 16 years, with the group Southern Tradition.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Matilda "Tillie" (McIntosh) Marquess, Cadiz; his sons, Brian Marquess and Kevin (Stephanie) Marquess, both of Cadiz; his daughter, Rachel (Dusty) Baggett, Paducah; his sister-in-law, Carolyn (Earl) Mayes, Greenville; and four grandchildren.
