Maurice Raymond Grayson, 88, of Hopkinsville, KY died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 8:18 a.m.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 at First Baptist Church Hopkinsville with the Reverends Mike VanHeyningen and William Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour Saturday at First Baptist Church. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Butler County, Kentucky he was born September 26, 1931 the son of the late George Raymond Grayson and Nina Ewing Grayson.

He was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and Western Kentucky University. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War.

His employment history included Russellville Lumber Co., Biltrite and Page Brothers Motor Company. A lifetime educator, he taught at Fieldale High School in Fieldale, Virginia and Bowling Green Vocational School. He was a teacher, vice principal, and principal at the Russellville Vocational School. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and designing homes for many families in the area.

Maurice Grayson was also an active community member serving as a Board Member for Kentucky Public Television. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Russellville and helped with establishing a mission church, currently Eastside Baptist Church, Russellville. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hopkinsville and an early member of YMCA Rock Steady Boxing to aid in his Parkinson’s recovery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Gordon Grayson, Leland Grayson, Luther Grayson, and Neal Grayson; and a sister: Nina Shrull.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Zettie Brown Grayson; two brothers: Herald Grayson and Wayne (Imogene) Grayson; three sisters in law: Dottie Gray, Carolyn (John) Sharp, and Bettie Jo Brown. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews who remember him as an uncle, friend, and playmate. They honored him with a reserved seat at all family dinners at the “kids table.”

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to be made to Rock Steady Boxing c/o Lynn Major 504 Deepwood Drive, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
