On behalf of the Christian County Literacy Council, I would like to thank the many individuals and organizations who helped make our recent Beverly Whitfield Memorial Community Reader Day such a tremendous success. Over 150 individuals took time out of their busy schedules to visit in the 11 (public and private) elementary schools in Christian County to share a story with the students and to stress the importance of reading. Thanks, especially, to the Pennyroyal Arts Council for their generous donation of copies of Christian County Counts that we were able to leave at the schools. Many thanks, too, to the community resource officers, school receptionists and secretaries who helped make the day run smoothly. Mrs. Whitfield, the delightful, longtime advocate of reading and literacy in our community, would have been truly proud.
