The Hopkinsville 55+ mixed doubles tennis team won four matches to win the United States Tennis Association, Southern Sectional Championship, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Entering the tournament as a wild card entrant from the state tournament, they defeated teams from Chattanooga, Tennesse, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Corinth, Mississippi, and Columbia, South Carolina, to win the tournament and advance to the 2019 National Tournament.

The team’s qualification for the national tournament marks the first time ever a team from Hopkinsville has ever qualified.

After winning the sectional, the UTSA Nationals will be at two different locations. One at the Vancouver Tennis Center in Vancouver, Washington and the other at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center in Beaverton, Oregon.

The southern section is one of 17 different sections competing in the nationals, which also includes a section from the Carribean.

Teams will compete in four matches to begin, then the top four teams based on the standings will advance to the semi-finals and compete for a national championship.
