In his 16th and final season at the helm of Christian County wrestling, Robert Burnham was given the National Wrestling Coaches Association High School Boys Head Coach of the Year honor for the state of Kentucky.

The rest of the Christian County coaching staff — consisting of newly hired head coach Dee Leavell, Anthony Smith, Damien Leavell, Anthony Harris, and Anthony Adams — earned Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year for Kentucky honors from the NWCA.

By receiving these honors, Burnham becomes a finalist for the NWCA Section Two Coach of the Year Award and the staff becomes finalists for the NWCA Section Two Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year Award.

This past season the Colonels were the runner-up in the region for the seventh straight season, while setting a new school record for points scored at the state meet to finish as the runner-up there as well.

Burnham coached two individual state champions in Jakerion Merritt in 2019 and Niko Bussell in 2020, while Christian County won its sixth straight King of the Bluegrass title and earning nine placers at the state tournament.
