The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons soared to a dominant 11-0 victory in five innings Monday night over Hopkinsville in game that saw Fort Campbell pitcher Kiley McCrary pitch a no-hitter.
McCrary only walked four batters while striking out 14 as she helped her team advance to the eighth district championship Tuesday night against the Christian County Lady Colonels. Christian County dispatched the UHA Lady Blazers 15-0 in three innings to advance to the district championship. But it was a clear team effort for the Lady Falcons in their victory. It was Fort Campbell’s first postseason victory since 2006 and head coach Traci Laird said that McCrary had a great night in the hole.
Tristin Caldwell had three runs scored.
Hailey Herron had two runs scored, three hits including a double and a home run, three RBIs and stole two bases.
Emma Kolmerton had two runs scored and reached base once on a walk.
Anika Weisbrich had one run scored, three hits including a double and three RBIs.
Carrie McCrary had one run scored, two hits including a double and two RBIs.
Chela Lassus had one run scored, one RBI and reached base twice on walks.
Alexsa Hoffman had one run scored and stole one base.
Kiley McCrary reached base three times on walks.
“We’ve had a lot of errors this year, but we’ve the last couple weeks been hammering them, doing 21 outs, any mistake we start over, so they’ve got a lot of good workouts in and they’re not allowed to bat until they get their outs, so we’ve been trying to lessen the mistakes and the errors and just play our game,” Laird said.
Laird said that every team is beatable and that she couldn’t remember the last time Fort Campbell beat Hopkinsville or the last time they were in regionals or in the championship game.
“I know it’s like early 2000s, so every team’s beatable,” Laird said.
She also touched on their current catcher since their main one has been out with an injury and how they’ve been working on a lot of different drills so they make sure she can stay successful. Laird also touched on how well their battery has done this season.
