Mercer

Hopkinsville freshman Daisjaun Mercer is one of several local athletes to make the Associated Press All-State Team but Mercer is the only one to make the first team.

Mercer finished his first season with eight interceptions for the 8-4 Tigers.

Fellow Tiger Reece Jesse was named to the offenses second team after hauling in 67 catches for 1,184 yards. Jesse finished the year with 15 touchdowns.

Trigg County’s Cade Bleidt also was named to the defenses second team after tallying 123 tackles during his senior campaign. Bleidt also rushed for 485 yards and nine touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Jeriah Hightower also was named to the first team while teammate Blake Moody was named to the second team.

Former Todd County Central coach Darell Keith was named honorable mention for his efforts at the helm of the Rebels last season.

Covington Catholic’s Michael Mayer was named AP’s Mr. Football while Mayfield’s Joe Morris and Male’s Chris Wolfe each earned for Coach of the Year honors.
