For the University Heights Academy girls' soccer program, winning the Second Region All "A" Classic tournament has become a rite of passage and for this year's soccer players, the team will have another shot at the crown Thursday night.
The Lady Blazers cruised to a 9-0 win over Lyon County on Tuesday at UHA as the team started its first of three games in three days.
Despite being the favorite every season, UHA Coach Michael Parker said the team can't be overconfident.
"We just look forward to it because we've done so well and it's become a tradition," he said. "Every year, no matter if we're really good or we're down a little, we expect that group to keep repeating because nobody wants to be the next team that doesn't."
UHA's goal coming into Tuesday was to score early and they did just that as the Lady Blazers had a multiple-goal lead in the first few minutes of the game.
Sarah Covington had a hat trick in the first 12 minutes of the game, and the game was in hand from there for the Lady Blazers.
"We just wanted to go in and pass well," she said. "Be the best that we could be and get goals in really quick."
Grace Pape added a hat trick as Molly Bennett had two goals and Emma Perry also scored in the victory.
With the loss of Kate Cansler, Pape said she didn't feel any pressure coming into the season as she's already in the leadership role.
"I didn't feel more pressure," she said. "I felt the same as always. I always felt like a leader on this team and I always try to act like it, be a role model to the younger kids. Losing Kate was a big hit, but I knew I was going to have to take Lilly's spot in general and score as many goals as I can."
UHA now looks to an 8th District contest against Christian County at 7 tonight at the Stadium of Champions for its second game in two days.
"The fact we're playing at the stadium then having to turn around and play in the All 'A' final, that's certainly not ideal but it is what it is," he said.
Parker said anytime it's a district matchup, records can be thrown out the window.
"We just take one game at a time," he said. "But anytime you go to the stadium, regardless of where they are and where we are, it's a district game. You just got to get after it."
After its game against Christian County, UHA plays in the All "A" Classic regional final against Fort Campbell at FCHS.
