Kentucky men’s basketball forward EJ Montgomery declared for the NBA draft Wednesday.

“When I decided to come to Kentucky, it was a dream of mine to win a national championship,” Montgomery said in a news release. “I know my brothers and I were ready to go to war for our coaches, the university and (Big Blue Nation) to bring home the national title this year.”

The NCAA college basketball tournament was ultimately canceled due to COVID-19.

“The circumstances were unfortunate, but I am thankful that I was able to play for a great coach and coaching staff and compete every day in practice and in games to challenge myself to become a better all-around play,” he said.

Montgomery averaged 6.1 points per game in the shortened 2019-20 season and 4.8 points per game in his two seasons at Kentucky. He also had 1.7 offensive rebounds and 2.9 defensive rebounds in his career.

Montgomery is now the fifth player from the 2019-20 Kentucky team to declare for the draft.
