Sara Stokes County girls' soccer

On a day in which senior leadership was celebrated, a pair of Christian County guests of honor led by example on their home field one last time.

Senior Sara Stokes scored twice to give the Lady Colonel soccer team a two-goal cushion, and fellow senior Alyssa White scored the game winner with 3:42 remaining to lift County to a 3-2 win over Paducah Tilghman at the Stadium of Champions.

CCHS, which honored nine seniors — Stokes, White, RayKeisha Burrus, Rebekah Holmes, Kelsey Latham, Natalie Long, Miya McKnight, Lacie Mohon and Chelsey Willis — got its third victory of the season in 16 games, sending its pack of seniors out as winners on their home pitch.

Six of the nine seniors have scored goals this season. Stokes now has a team-leading eight goals in 2016.

It was the third goal for White, who is tied for Mohon for second on the team with three.

The Lady Colonels, who are 2-3 in their last five games under first-year coach Krista Bonino, will now play three on the road in four days in preparation for next week’s 8th District Tournament.

This week’s slate includes away games at 5:30 p.m. today at Logan County, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Muhlenberg County and 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Lyon County.
