As the high school basketball season winds down, it’s clear who the favorite to win the eighth district is.
The Christian County Lady Colonels sit at 9-11 on the season but are a smooth well coached team with Kiki Radford at the helm. On the court it’s freshman Anaysia Bagwell dominating the score putting up double figures on a nightly basis. Bagwell has 366 total points on the season as she averages 18.3 a game. With Bagwell being just a freshman this season, it should be a scary thought for opposing teams going forward the rest of the season and throughout the rest of her career.
Down low in the paint, Sarah Harris has made a name for herself with her rebounding on both sides of the ball. She gets down low and bodies up against other players for rebounds put back baskets. Harris has 117 points on the season while averaging 6.2 a game and hauling in 4.9 rebounds a game and has a total of 93 rebounds on the season. But it’s not just those two players that have been the major contributors as Evanna McGregor and NeVaeh Day and the rest of the team have also done their part in helping the team to be the best in the district. McGregor has 199 points on the season while averaging 9.9 a game with NeVaeh Day sitting at 165 points and averaging 9.7 a game. On the glass, McGregor has 90 rebounds on the season and averages 4.5 a game while Day has 169 points on the season and averages 9.9 a game.
The Hoptown Lady Tigers shouldn’t be dismissed, however with two double-digit losses to the Lady Colonels and one of their best players out in Faith Dansbury, it’d be tough to catch the Lady Colonels. The district championship game will likely be Hoptown and Christian County, but with the way Christian County has been playing this season, look for them to claim the district title.
Another school that can’t be left out is Todd Central as the Lady Rebels have done quite well this season under first year head coach Nick Suttle as they currently sit at 11-9 overall. While they’re currently a little bit, it’s clear that’s not the norm and that they’ll likely break out of that quite soon and finish the season strong in the 13th district. Alexis Taylor leads the Lady Rebels with 336 points on the season while averaging 16.8 a game and hauling in 11.1 a game with 222 rebounds on the season leading the team. Abby Williams is next in line for the Lady Rebels collecting 12.2 points a game and has amassed a total of 243 points on the season and hauling in 4.8 rebounds a game with 95 on the season.
